New Schedules! New Choices!   

Beginning with the 2012-13 school year, families will have a number of new scheduling choices. For example, for the first time in our history, CHP will offer a Friday afternoon session. This means your three- or four-year-old can now have a Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule, for either afternoons or full-time! We are very excited about this and other improvements, not only because you will have more options, but our teachers will get to know your children even better. Take a look at our application for all the possible schedules.

Please note: If you have already filed an application with us and you had chosen a 2-session afternoon schedule (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday), we will discuss the new options with you at the time we are able to offer you a space.

ADMISSIONS PROCEDURE: NEW STUDENTS – 
CHP admits applicants on a first-come, first-served basis, with consideration given to returning students and siblings of students or alumni. CHP also attempts to balance the gender and age ratios of each group. A $100 non-refundable application fee (made payable to “Cobble Hill Playgroup, Inc”) must be submitted with the school application for a child to secure a place on the waiting list. Enrollment is based on the date we receive your application and check.  The earlier you apply, the better your chances as spaces fill rapidly. And it is not necessary to attend a tour before you apply. Final decisions are made in the spring and parents are notified by phone. 

If CHP is unable to offer an applicant the specific space requested, or if the applicant withdraws from the waiting list, the $100 application fee will NOT be refunded. 

Parents should clearly specify the times (mornings or afternoons) and days they want on their applications. Every effort will be made to meet those requests. Most two-year-olds attend Tuesday and Thursday sessions, and most three-year-olds attend Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, though certain exceptions can be made.  The Director will schedule an applicant in the way that best suits the interests of the child, providing space permits.

Tours begin the first Monday of November.  We will begin scheduling tours at the end of October. So, please call our Administrator Janie Greene then at 718.243.0440 to set up an appointment for a visit.

The Cobble Hill Playschool is a cooperative. At its core, our school relies on the volunteer efforts of parents to flourish. By having parents volunteer their time, we are able to keep costs down, strengthen the cooperative mission, build the CHP team and, together, get the job done.

Accordingly, we require that parents perform 20 volunteer hours. Unfortunately, this commitment cannot always be met. To address this reality, the school has a mechanism in place wherein if you know you cannot fulfill your time commitment, we offer a “buy-out” option.  Specifically, you can contribute $500 per half-day session of extra tuition and "opt out" of the volunteer hours.
