MEL JOHNSTON

MUSIC SPECIALIST

Mel Johnston studied literature and music at New York University. Since graduating, she has been making her living as a vocalist and educator. Mel's teaching experiences have included writing songs with children with special needs, creating group songs with children participating in bereavement groups, entertaining families and young children as a performer and composer of children's music, as well as teaching private lessons on guitar, ukulele, piano, and voice. As an educator, she is committed to cultivating a deep love of music and self-expression in each of her students. Through her roles teaching and making music in an early childhood setting, Mel has been extremely privileged to have had the opportunity to expose babies and small children to their first tastes of music and singing. Mel views her teaching life as the perfect complement to her work as a performer. In the evenings, you may see her collaborating with different artists and musicians around NYC, but her main outlet for her singing and songwriting is the band that she leads with her childhood best friend, The Foxy Johnstons.
