School News & Announcements

  • Thank you to all Twos families who attended our Twos Curriculum Night last night.  Families asked some terrific questions!  We will provide notes from the night by next week.

    • Threes and Fours parents: Stay tuned for Curriculum Night on Wednesday, October 28th via Zoom.

  • Halloween at CHP: We love Halloween, however over the years we have found that the anticipation and excitement can be too much for the children.  As such, we do not allow costumes in school.  However, we will celebrate in many other fun ways!

    • Each classroom has pumpkins, ghosts, ghouls, and witches - as play items, in books, as dramatic play scenarios, and more.  We are talking often about Halloween and our costume plans.

    • All of our 3s and 4s classes will be taking field trips to Mazzone Hardware.  The visits will be 100% outdoors and all safety precautions observed at CHP will be observed on the trips.

    • Nancy will carve a jack-o-lantern in school!

  • Flu shots: Flu shots are mandatory for all children enrolled in preschool programs in New York City.  Shots must be administered before December 31st.  Proof of vaccination should be submitted to Stacy (stacy@cobblehillplayschool.com OR fax: (718) 243-0445).

  • Final tuition payments are due on November 1st.  If you have any questions about the amount of your payment, please contact Stacy (stacy@cobblehillplayschool.com).  Thank you!

  • Arts specialists rotation: Covid restrictions mean that our teachers and students are working in small, static groups this year.  However, we are still committed to (safely and healthfully) providing all children with the full range of our arts program, so we will be rotating our arts specialists through each classroom throughout the year.  Our first rotation will happen over the Thanksgiving Break:

    • Nancy (visual arts) will move from Kelsey’s group to Sarah’s group.

    • Mel (music) and Caroline (drama) will move from Lizzie’s group to Kelsey’s group.

    • These groups will remain the same through February break.

  • BIG NEWS!  The “Cookie Monsters” are now the “Crocodiles.”  The children in Sarah’s group have been having some involved discussions about their group name.  There were some strong feelings and some big ideas.  After a week of great conversation, ideas, and suggestions, they have ultimately decided to be the Crocodiles.

    • Educational connection: It’s important to teach children that they can have an impact and a voice in the world!  Although this issue may seem inconsequential, the children expressed some strong feelings and we honor those feelings.

    • Administrative work: We will update the Google Email Group from the Cookie Monsters to the Crocodiles this weekend.  Starting Monday, you can get in touch with the Crocodiles, aka Sarah’s crew, at crocodiles@cobblehillplayschool.com

Notes From Our Classroom Teachers

  • Sarah crafted an excellent article on Limit Setting.  Limit setting can be tricky business, but it is critical in the early years.  Young children thrive when they feel the comfort and security of clear, consistent boundaries.  This article, and more to come, live on the CHP website’s Parent Portal (password: together).
